OVERVIEW

The Handique Girls’ College Hostel is situated just opposite to the college campus i.e. eastern side of the Dighalipukhuri. The hostel is newly renamed as Nirmal Prova Bordoloi Hostel. The hostel is a 3 (three) storied building with additional residential complex for Hostel Super and other staff members.
The College Hostel has been an integral part of the college and may be considered an extension of the institution. It reflects the true multiplicity of divergent cultures of the region; hence students are required to maintain a healthy community atmosphere in the Hostel.    

 

ADMINISTRATION

The internal management of the Hostel is looked after by a resident Hostel Super who is also a faculty member of the college. There is a Hostel Committee consisting of the Principal, Convener, Hostel Super and four members from the teaching staff to help in the smooth functioning of the Hostel. All the policy decision of the hostel is taken by the committee. The term of the committee is for a period of two years.

 

ADMISSION

Eligibility:

  • Admission to the Hostel can be granted only after the college admission is finalised.
  • Number of Hostel seats is limited, and admission is made strictly on the basis of academic merit.
  • Only out-station students are eligible for admission.
  • Only regular students of Handique Girls' College are eligible for Hostel accomodation.
  • Students who wish to avail of a Hostel seat under ST/SC, or any other reserved category are required to produce relevant certificates at the time of admission.
  • Admission will be finalised after a personal interview with the candidate, parents, and local guardian. They will be interviewed by a Committee consisting of the Hostel Warden, and two members representing the Hostel Committee.
Admission Procedure:
 

No hostel accomodation is available for 1st and 2nd year H. S. Students (Arts and Science). All T.D.C. First year students desiring Hostel accomodation should submit the Hostel application form, duly filled, on the day of the college admission.
The following documents should be attached with the completed form at the time of submission

  1. College fee receipt.
  2. Proof of out-station residence.
  3. Relevant documents of SC / ST.
  4. One passport-size photograph.

Incomplete forms will be rejected. Applications will be reviewed by the Hostel Committee and seats will be allotted accordingly.

 

Re-admission:

Re-admission to the Hostel is made afresh each year. Allotted seats shall be valid for one academic session only. Procedure for re-admission will be the same as for 1st year admission. The following candidate will not be re-admitted:

  1. Those who have failed in the last University / Board examination.
  2. Those, who have failed to secure 75% attendance in Major as well as subsidiary subjects in the last academic year.
  3. Those who violated College / Hostel rules, or were guilty of Hostel indiscipline or committed acts of misconduct in the past year.
  4. Those who failed to pay their mess dues regularly.
 
GENERAL RULES AND CONDITIONS FOR RESIDENTS:
  1. There shall be no ragging in the Hostels. Anybody found indulging in ragging is liable to be expelled from the Hostel as well as from the College.
  1. Students are required to sign in a register every time they leave the Hostel premises, (except during college hours) to fill in the required details and sign again on return. Strict measures shall be taken against any boarder found violating this rule.
  1. No resident will be allowed to go home in between the summer and puja vacations without valid reason.
  1. Residents must report at the Hostel the day before re-opening of the college.
  1. Residents can leave the Hostel the day before the commencement of the vacation.
  1. Night stay outside the Hostel is generally not permissible. However, a boarder can stay at the local guardian's house (for one night only), after submitting an application written and signed by the local guardian. Any extension of leave in case of sickness or unforeseen circumstances has to be duly written and signed by the local guardian.
  1. Outstation leave will be granted only on the production of a letter from the parents and permission from the Principal.
  1. Any change in the details of the local guardian must be informed and approved of by the college authorities.
  1. Residents are required to maintain silence during study hours, the study schedule being 6 A.M.; 6 P.M. to 8.30 P.M.; 9.30 P.M. onwards.
  1. Use of electric appliances and mobile phones is strictly prohibited in the rooms. If any forbidden articles,such as heaters, immersion rods, irons, stoves etc. are found in the room they will be confiscated and a fine imposed for the violation of rules.
  1. Residents are required to keep their rooms tidy, neat and clean, and observe proper methods of disposal of garbage.
  1. Residents must take their meals within half an hour of the ringing of the bell, after which no claim will be entertained.

No boarder will be allowed to stay in the hostel during college hours without valid reason.
 
Visitors and Guests

Visitors and guests are allowed in hostel only in the visiting days, i.e. Wednesday (3 PM to 5 PM) and Sunday (9 AM to 12 Noon and 3 PM to 5 PM). In normal circumstances, no visitors shall be allowed other than on these days. Following are the general information on visitors and guests.

  1. Lady visitors may visit the residents in their rooms with the permission of the Hostel Super. Male visitors can meet a resident only in the visitors' room.
  1. No visitors, including day scholars, are allowed to enter the Hostel, except with the permission from Hostel Super.
  1. Residents must be properly attired when receiving visitors. Meeting visitors and coming to the dining hall in night clothes is strictly prohibited.
  1. Student guests are allowed to stay in the Hostel with the prior permission of the Hostel Super for a maximum period of 2 days. Extension of stay will be determined by the Hostel Super. The number of guests allowed to a resident will be at the discretion of the Hostel Super.
  1. The Hostel Super reserves the right to refuse admission or to terminate the stay of any guest.
Hostel rules and regulations are also applicable to guests.
 

MESS PROCEDURE AND GENERAL FACILITIES:

The management of the Hostel mess is generally undertaken by a group of students from among the boarders generally by senior students. There is another group who is responsible for marketing. Selection of the group will be at the discretion of the Warden. The boarders are provided with hygienic food. The food is served as per the fixed menu for a week. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods are available.   

The Hostel provides ceiling fans, lights and water-cooler. Each boarder is allotted a bed, a study table, chair and an almirah. Residents are required to bring their own mattress, pillow, blankets, quilt, bed-linen, towels, curtains and bucket and mug.

Residents must also bring their own plate, coffee-mug, glass, cutlery, thermos-flask, torch etc. No Hostel property shall be removed from the dining room under any circumstances.

There is a weekly medical health check up for boarders. In case of medical emergency, students are taken to the nearest hospital / nursing home, and her local guardian is immediately informed.

The Hostel provides for both day and night watchmen.

 

GAMES AND STUDENTS ACTIVITIES

Games and other extra curricular activities are integral part of the hostel. The college hostel has various indoor game facilities that include table Tennis, Carom and Chess. Hostel boarders are also provided with badminton facility.

Besides sports various cultural activities like drama, music, dance etc. are also an essential part of hostel environment. Besides, there are literary, art and photographic activities also. There is a wall magazine called published yearly by the boarders. Freshers’ Social and Saraswati Puja are the two major festivals of the hostel. Apart from these festivals like Christmas, Idd, Diwali, Holi, New Year celebrations are also being organized regularly in the hostel. Teachers’ day is also celebrated in the hostel in a befitting manner.    
 

BOARDER’ S REPRESENTATIVE

  1. There is no hostel student union. However,there are 3 (three) floor representatives and 3 (three) monitresses. The floor representatives are selected by the students and the monitresses are selected by the Hostel Super.
  1. The floor representatives keep on a vigil regarding the problems of the boarders. They act as link between the boarders and monitress.
  1. Monitresses are overall responsible for maintaining order, discipline, and cleanliness in the rooms and corridors.They are also in direct contact with the Hostel Super. The overall responsibilities of hostel activities are handed over to the monitresses.  
Resident students are expected to co-operate with the floor representatives and monitresses in the smooth and efficient functioning of the Hostel and thereby extend full co-operation to the Hostel Super.
 
GENERAL INFORMATION
  1. Boarders are required to acquaint themselves with the Hostel Rules and abide strictly by them.
  1. Students on the Waiting List are advised to regularly check the Hostel notice board. If students do not avail of a seat when it is offered, they will lose their priority in the Waiting List.
  1. Seats will be allotted by the Hostel Committee. No student one can change her seat without the knowledge of the Warden and approval of the Principal.
  1. Each student must fill up the Resident Information form and submit the same to the Warden within 3 days of admission.
  1. Allotted seat rent and establishment charges must be deposited at the college office prior to entering the Hostel. Hostel admission will be granted on production of the hostel seat rent receipt.
  1. Students who forge the parent's / local guardian's signature may be expelled from the Hostel.
  1. Rooms are subject to surprise checks by the Warden and the Hostel Committee.
  1. Residents are advised not to keep valuables and large amounts of cash in their rooms. The hostel authorities will not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings.
Any damage to hostel property must be replaced by the offender
 

FEE STRUCTURE

At the time of admission / re-admission, a boarder shall have to pay the following fees for each session at the college fees counter.

After the allotment of a seat each boarder shall have to pay a sum of Rs. 2000/- per session as festival /
light / miscellaneous charges at the college counter.

Every boarder shall have to pay monthly mess dues on or before the 15th of every month, failing which a
fine of Rs. 10/- will be charged for each day.

Full mess dues must be paid every month. No reduction will be granted for absence from the Hostel.

Guest charge (to be paid in advance) is Rs. 50/- per day per person.
