The College offers courses of study in both Arts and Science faculties upto Degree Major level. The medium of instruction is English. However, Assamese is also used as complementary to English. Conforming to the national pattern of education, 10+2+3 structure is followed in the state of Assam and the Three Year Degree Course (TDC) has been introduced from the 1984-85 session. Initially the Three Year Degree Course comprised of two parts: Part-I and Part-II. Part-I Final Examination is held at the end of the second year and Part II Final Examination at the end of the third year. However, in 2004, Gauhati University has changed its undergraduate degree programme from the 2+1 pattern to the Part-I, Part-II and Part-III i.e. 1+1+1 pattern, where final examination is held at the end of each year. A student must offer English along with a group of three Elective subjects. A student having major must offer two other Elective subjects. |

A student having Major in any of the above subjects other than a Language subject must offer two compulsory subjects (English and MIL/Alternative English) along with one Elective subject. |

There are 3 (three) self financed courses in the dept. of Computer Science. These are - Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA), Post graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) and Computer literacy programme. Both BCA and PGDCA are affiliated to Gauhati University and the certificate of Computer literacy pragramme is issued by the college. The eligibility criteria, duration etc. are mentioned below. |

The college intends to open Post Graduate course in Assamese and English in the year 2010. Besides, a new subject viz. Microbiology would also be opened in the year 2010 in undergraduate level. University Grant Commission has already sanctioned a grant for this. |

| DISTANCE EDUCATION | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Handique Girls' College houses a centre for Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at its premises. The centre conducts regular counseling sessions in over a dozen educational programmes of IGNOU. It has a full fledged library and a well equipped audio-video library. In January 2006, the centre was presented an EDUSAT terminal by IGNOU, New Delhi. The terminal facilitates students to interact with faculty members of other institutions nationwide. Faculty members and non-teaching staff of the college are actively involved in the administration and counseling sessions of the centre. |
